06 FEROX - THE FORGOTTEN ARCHIVES
During the 1940s, a group of meteorites was discovered in the Swiss Alps. Scientists discovered the rocks had originated from Ferox, an undiscovered third moon circulating Mars. An extensive research mission was launched and went on for years, ending in 2010 after a series of budget cuts. Data, images and text were archived for decades. Artist Nicolas Polli created an open source website to access the materials, and also published an extensive book.
The Forgotten Archives of Ferox are an important part of space research, except for one small detail: they are completely fictional. Polli challenges the default acceptance of information as it is presented to us and lack of critical judgment. In an age of distorted information and complex science, Polli suggests we take the time to question what is in front of us.
